DASH diet
The DASH diet, which stands for "Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension", is clinically-proven and medically-approved to lower mild-to-moderate hypertension. It is high in fruits and vegetables, and relatively low in sodium. A special version of it also exists as the DASH-low sodium diet. The DASH diet may not be advisable for you if you need to be on a low potassium diet. You can find out more about the DASH diet, and download an informative booklet in pdf format  from the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute:

Facts About The DASH Diet (this takes you to an external website).
