Hypertension Notebook

Although it is sometimes hard to control effectively, hypertension (the medical term for high blood pressure) is thought to be the single most controllable factor in the progression of IgAN and other chronic kidney diseases. You may have high blood even when IgAN is mild, when you start having symptoms of chronic renal insufficiency, or when you have end-stage renal disease. Not everyone with IgAN will have hypertension, but some who do will find that it can take multiple medications to control it sufficiently. Because of its importance in terms of progression to ESRD, and potential damage to other organs, we have given hypertension its own section on the website.
